Munich in for Harry

According to the Mirror, Bayern Munich looks very likely to make a move for our suppose-to-be "dancing wizard of Oz" for £2.5m at the end of this season..

wat a pity it will be to let him go just like that. I can still remember the time when Houllier went in for him... All the big clubs over Europe were going for him as well. Everyone in Anfield were praying hard that he will choose us over the Scums. During that period, i log in every single LFC forum from time to time just to check if he had really signed for us. I can still vaguely remember that kind of anticipation i had for him to come and reserrect my beloved team. And the moment i heard that he had signed for us, i breathed a sigh of relief. I looked forward so much for the season to start and for him to set Anfield alight. But alas, he was never the player he use to be at Leeds. Game after game, he failed to impress and this season, he ended up sidelined due to a long term injury. He was never the dancing wizard of Oz when he was in Leeds. Very diasappointing. I really wish Rafa can be patient with him and give him another chance to have a go again. Dont offload him so easily as we had a tough time fighting for him.

Liverpool 2 Everton 1

201st Merseyside derby, one of the most important derby of all times. With Everton 7 pts ahead and vying for a remaining Champion's League spot, this match is almost like a 6 pointer for us. We started the game brightly... full of passion and hunger. We were all over Everton in the first half. Marcus Bent and gang rarely troubled our defense. Pellegrino and Carragher blocked off every Everton's attempt to initate an attack. Finnan and Warnock played well to stop the opponent's winger from charging down the flanks.

The opening goal arrived on 27mins when Hibbert brought down Garcia at the edge of the box. Hamann steadily tap the ball into Gerrard's path for him to coolly slot it past Martyn. The 2nd goal came shortly after. Morientes tried to lob the ball past Nigel Martyn. The keeper did not know whether to save or tip it over, and ended up pushing it onto the bar. In comes 'snipping' Garcia who cleverly headed the ball into the net (thank god he did not try to volley across the bar this time round). The whole of Anfield went into a state of frenzy. Everton tried to regroup themselves and look for some inspiration but they never looked like finding it.

Then came on a series of unfortunate events. Misfortune never strike once, twice, thrice, fourth... it struck fifth at Anfield yesterday. Warncock was the 1st to come off after taking a knock to an ankle. He was replaced by Nunez. Riise was dropped to LB and Garcia switched to RM. On 40mins Hamann was the 2nd to be substituted. He looked to have twisted a knee and was replaced by Egorrr. Then Morientes twinged a thigh muscle and was replaced by Smicer. With Morientes leaving the ground, Garcia went down on the ground in agony with an ankle injury. Having used up 2 substitution in the first half, Garcia had to stay on the pitch and continue playing regardless of his injury. For most of the 2nd half, he was just a passer-by in midst of all actions. Just when you think things cant go any worse, Milan Baros received an instant red card for his crunching tackle on Stubbs. For the remaining near 15mins, we had to play with 10 men. Frankly speaking, had Baros scored in his 2 previous 1-on-1 attempts (the first was when Stubbs fell on the ball in his own half. Baros picked up the ball and went solo all the way till he lost the ball to Hibbert due to poor control. the second was when Baros managed to turn and shake off his marker only to find himself shooting onto Martyn's shoes!), we would have easily wrapped up the game without the need to go thru a pulsating last few mins with Everton coming in waves in search of that equalizer (after they pulled 1 back courtesy of a low corner shot from Cahill).

No doubt it was a sweet victory for us having close down the gap to 4 pts, our red army had suffered huge loss as well. Baros will be suspended for 3 matches. With Morientes, Pongolle, Mellor all out from injuries, we might have to play the next few games without striker! With Alonso still out from injury and Hamann likely out for 10 days, the only person to fill up that CM postion will be the 'effective' Biscan. Wat a price to pay in exchange for a victory against the Bluenose.

CL Draw

quarter final: Liverpool v Juventus AC Milan v Inter Milan Lyon v PSV Chelsea v Bayern Munich semi-final: Chelsea or Bayern Munich v Liverpool or Juventus AC Milan or Inter Milan v Lyon or PSV
wat a draw. Nv dare dream of us meeting Juventus ffs. Seriously, i would rather hv Bayern Munich anyday. With all these injuries and inconsistency, i cant foresee us marching into the semis. But Rafa seems to be very experience when it comes to european matches. I really hope his experience and familiarity with European tactics will carry us thru this hurdle. I guess it'll be a tight match... a real showdown between Captain Marvel and Pavel Nedved.

OOPS...he did it again

serial spitter strikes again! El Hadji Diouf got sent off in the FA Cup tie between Arsenal and Bolton. Nope! This time round he did not spit at anyone; he 'merely' thrusted Jens Lehman onto the ground. And he went heads on with a couple of Arsenal players before getting the red card deservingly. But i think Jens Lehman deserved it as well. Fancy trying to confront the 'serial killer'. Frankly speaking, i really do not want to see that man back in Anfield. Why dont we sell him cheaply to Bolton (with Diao bundled as a free gift)?

Bayern Lev 1 Liverpool 3

2 sublime touches by Garcia and a Baro's goal in the 67th min... and we are through to the quarter-finals of the CL. What a sweet revenge it was for us who crashed out of the quarter-finals to Leverkusen after a 4-2 defeat at the BayArena in 2002.

Newcastle Utd 1 Liverpool 0

"Liverpool, a team badly hit by injury crisis" How true. Look at the makeshift team for yesterday's clash... Somehow i cant make out the actual formation. Most probably its as follow:
---Baros---
Garcia--------------------------Smicer
---Gerrard---Biscan---
Riise--------------------------Finnan
---Pelle---Hyypia---Carra---
--- Carson---

Rafa chose to rest Dudek and we saw Scott Carson making his debut for the first team. Riise played as LB in place of Traore who is out with a thigh injury;.while Pellegrino partnered Hyypia and Carra in defence. In midfield, we saw Biscan partnering Gerrard instead of Didi. Smicer and Garcia played in the 'winger' position right behind Baros and we really looked pathetic playing with only 1 striker up front (apparently Morientes is out with a groin injury).

The game started well with us keeping possession of the ball and some fine passing. But after a while, everything went haywire. Garcia as usual, keep losing possession. Gerrard imho had a poor game. His passings were awlful and the leadership was not there for he could not inspire the team to play. Riise had a quiet game and Biscan *sigh* wat more can i say about him? just another average performance. Vladimir-twinkle-toe Smicer is never ever a man fit to wear the Liverpool jersey!!! He was absolutely clueless!

For the remaining time, we could not even string more than 2 passes together. Ameobi was running all over the place but thank god the defence stood firm. Pelle did a great job marking Alan Shearer, keeping him very quiet on his testimonial match. And thank god as well that Bellamy has left...his pace would have tore Hyypia/Pellegrino to shreds! Baros had very little chances up front. Most of the time he makes solo runs with the ball only to lose possession when 2-3 defenders climbs all over him. The game ended 0-0 in the first half with very little goalmouth action.

Second half started more or less in the same fashion. We still could not keep possession and string passes. How Boring... Boumsong had a great game, keeping Baros quiet throughout. We had difficulty initiating an attack as Newcastle threw more men upfront. The introduction of Kluivert added a new dimension to the game. Finally, a beautiful freekick from Laurent Robert broke the deadlock between 2 teams who were both toothless in attack. A goal even the best GK in the world cant save. So will all of u fans lay off Carson?! With less than 20mins to go, we struggled to find that equalizing goal. The introdution of Le Tallac, Nunez and Warnock served no effect. No matter wat, we just could not break down a determined Newcastle defense.

The game ended 1-0, leaving us without a pt from St. Jame's Park. And the race to 4th place looked almost impossible. I think we'll have to bid farewell to CL nx season...

adiós carling cup...

Its just one of those days... totally ruined by an own goal. And my oh my... guess who scored that own goal? Captain Marvel of all people; out of a seemingly harmless freekick. What an irony! Just when the rumours of him going to Stamford Bridge come summer spread like wildfire, he scored a 'crucial' own goal for his 'future' employer and got people labelling him as traitor. I felt the result was abit too harse for us. Our defence held firm despite the Blues attacking in waves. Dudek did well. He pulled save after save to keep us in the driving seat and somewat make up for the blunder he made against bayern lev. but that was not enough. a stevie g's own goal brought chelski into the game, cancelling out JAR's early goal (44sec -- i think that went into the record) and Jose Mourinho got sent off by the 4th official due to his gesture to the opposite fans. the own goal brought the game into extra time and by then, all our players were exhausted and we had used up all our substitutions. Eventually, chelski sealed the game with 2 goals in the 2nd period of E.T courtesy of Drogba and Kezman. Both from a lapse in concentration in defense. wat a shame to lose a cup final in this manner.
